Democrats State Administration Refusing Government Closure Discussions as President Restates Warning of Layoffs

A high-ranking administration official has suggested that extensive dismissals of government employees could commence if the president determines that talks to conclude the administration stoppage are "totally going nowhere|making no progress|stalled completely}."

Kevin Hassett stated to CNN that he still perceived a chance that Democrats would back down, but added that the president was "preparing to act|take action|intervene" if necessary.

Deadlocked Negotiations

No concrete indications of negotiations have appeared between congressional leaders since the president met with them the previous week. The shutdown began on the first of October, after Senate Democrats turned down a interim budget proposal that would keep government departments functioning through to 21 November.

"They've refused to speak with us," Senate Democratic leader the Senate minority leader informed the television network, claiming the impasse could be ended only by additional discussions between the president and the four congressional officials.

Political Accusations

The Republican Speaker of the House accused Democratic lawmakers of being "not serious" in discussions to conclude the national stoppage, while the Democratic leader accused Republicans of causing the closure.
