Former Doctor Faces Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor now faces charges for committing sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.
The Grave Allegations
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief prosecutor said, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Investigation
The charges come after what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents outline the 45 charges comprise:
- 15 counts of assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
