Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
