President Trump Invites Relatives of Attacked Military Soldiers to the White House
Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The president said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president informed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Support
Community members gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to assist law enforcement in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to help others.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Policy Revisions
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop granting entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she also intended to speak to the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” he told the gathering at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
