The Bianconeri Rescue Dramatic Draw After Goal-Filled Second Period Clash Against Dortmund
Englishman Lloyd Kelly netted a leveler in the sixth minute of injury time to rescue a point for the Italian giants after a thrilling goal-laden second half at home to Dortmund.
Kelly’s Redemption After Penalty Mistake
Centre-back Kelly – who joined from the Magpies in the summer – conceded a penalty that allowed Dortmund to make it 4-2, before he followed up Dusan Vlahovic's late equaliser by heading home a delivery from the Serbia striker two minutes.
Slow Start Leads to Scoring Frenzy
Neither side created little worth mentioning during the first 45 minutes as they cancelled each other out in midfield.
Initial 45 minutes failed to excite many spectators, yet anyone who stuck around witnessed a burst of thrilling action after halftime – with the hosts came from behind on three occasions, as eight goals scored after the 51st minute.
This marks only the second-ever UCL match where eight scores have been scored in one half, after the second half of Bayern Munich's 9-2 win against Dinamo Zagreb the previous campaign.
Back-and-Forth Action
Karim Adeyemi gave Dortmund the first goal when he expertly shifted the ball on the edge of the box and placed it past the keeper.
Dortmund improved considerably in front of goal, but, 11 minutes after, a moment of Juventus magic by Yildiz resulted in the Turkey international bending a stunning strike top bins from distance.
Less than two minutes later and Dortmund were again in front, with Felix Nmecha delivering another exquisite finish curling a first-time effort into the top corner.
Yet there were always further twists to come, and Vlahovic slotted home when one-on-one less than two minutes to level once more.
Stoppage-Time Heroics
Having lost their advantage twice, BVB retook the lead once again as Couto, sprinting towards the Juve box, fired a powerful shot inside the post, just beyond the dive of the goalkeeper.
Bensebaini extended Dortmund's lead from the penalty spot after former England Under-21 international Lloyd Kelly handled it in his box.
However Vlahovic fired a last-gasp shot in off the frame before setting up ex- Bristol City and Bournemouth back Lloyd Kelly to seal an injury-time draw.
