The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
