The Tennis Legend Faces Life ‘Moment to Moment’ Post ‘Aggressive’ Cancer Discovery

Björn Borg, a legendary athlete, has revealed that he is taking life “step by step, moment to moment” post an “highly severe” prostate illness discovery.

Health Update

The retired tennis star, who left professional tennis in his mid-twenties, revealed the personal challenge in the last part of his memoir, coming out shortly. The athlete is currently in remission post an operation in recent years, but stated that the news was “emotionally challenging”.

“The physician told me and he said the situation is very serious,” the champion revealed. “He explained about inactive cancerous cells which means an ongoing battle ahead. Twice a year I undergo check-ups. Recently, I completed another screening. It’s a thing I have to live with.”

Personal Struggles

In his autobiography he opens up regarding anxiety episodes and his drug use, that originated in 1982. “My initial experience with cocaine,” he mentions, “I experienced a high reminiscent I used to get from tennis.”

Borg describes a medical emergency abroad years ago due to substance misuse on “substances and medications — my method of dealing with stress”. He also writes about “a moment of humiliation”, occurring when he looked up from a hospital bed with his parent present after another overdose.

Life After Tennis

In his book Borg describes ending his career as a young man post losses major tournaments against a familiar opponent. “My only thoughts that my happiness was gone,” he states.
